It’s been a while since I’ve blogged. I just haven’t had anything interesting to say, and no progress in the fiction writing corner of my life. I have a nice long weekend ahead, starting tomorrow, so hopefully progress will be made. I’ve had my mind on the housing market again and that always leads to me day dreaming about home decorating and improvement projects instead of characters and plots.
I did do a little gardening the other day. The balcony was starting to look unkempt and bad with a few dead plants still taking up space in some of the pots. We just planted way too early this year and the cold sucked the life out of half our garden. I created my own hanging pot arrangement to bring a little color to the upper portion of the balcony, then introduced several more herbs. We are now growing the following herbs:
New: lavender, sage, marjoram, curly parsley, French tarragon, and chamomile
Old: Rosemary, thyme, mint, catnip, chives, oregano, cilantro, and Italian parsley
Herbs have such variety in texture and color. Not only are they practical, but they’re a pleasant sight in the garden, and provide the best aroma. Most of them are easy to grow, like rosemary and chives. Some have to be watched, because they are best harvest before they flower, like oregano and parsley. Very few are fragile. So far, only cilantro has proven to be a difficult grow. It refuses to be watered like the rest. Instead, I have to carefully go beneath the leaves and sprinkle a small amount of water, then let it dry well before watering again. Otherwise, cilantro mats to the dirt and dies.
Our peach tree isn’t doing nearly as well this year. A white fungus has started to inhabit some of the branches. I’m researching the issue in hopes of protecting the tree. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll be getting any real peach fruit this year, as most of the ones that looked promising have since shrivelled. I think it needs real earth to spread its roots. Maybe soon that will happen.
Hope everyone enjoys the upcoming holiday. Think warm, sunny weather.
