we dream and stretch and dream again
wrapped in wool and blue gray shadows
left by the rainy afternoon sky
we tuck ourselves among books and woven baskets
in the quiet gold and burgundy tower room
where she writes and wanders among old thoughts
the trees outside are mustard and wine
the clocks have slowed and fallen out of time

She came quietly one night in late August, not disturbing the slumber of the small river side town. She nestled in a little slow, combing her corn husk hair; a little lonesome and in need of company.

The smell of premature Autumn rain through the open windows: Cooled earth and old leaves.
A breeze gently flapping the shades: long childhood naps and daydreams.
Snuggling under fresh cotton sheets with Mike: jasmine and shamrocks.
Guinny settled sleepily in the window sill above my head: slow smiles and silent winks.
